Module 7

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
1.) "Frank Gehry's: Architecture as an Art
  • Buildings go further than being designed just solely for function. Buildings should be designed as a form of art
  • Buildings are similar to sculpture
  • Gehry's design process starts with a sketch of the building and he then makes a model before the actual building process
    "Architecture: The Science of Design"
  • Concrete is a major building material in creating architecture that scientists are constantly working on to make stronger
  • Architects must take into account environmental factors when creating the building's design. Especially when designing skyscrapers, factors like wind and snow accumulation must be considered.
  • Architecture and technology work together ins "smart homes". Computers control things in the home such as lighting and sound.
2.) The videos tied into the reading because we learned more about structural systems and the design process of creating a building. The readings touched upon Gehry's design process while, the video gave us a more in depth analysis.

3.) I found both films very informative and gave more detail into the construction of a building. I love having more visuals when learning about a new topic. Being able to really see the step process of building gorgeous structures helps my understanding.

4.) I chose the video "Architecture: The Science of Design" because I wanted to understand more about the steps and process that goes into a building. I chose the video "Frank Gehry's: Architecture as an Art" because I was interested in learning more about Frank Gehry and his artistic process as an architect. I really liked how he believed buildings served both structural and artistic purposes.
